The 59th Speedo Sea of Galilee Swim

The Speedo Sea of Galilee Swim, now in its 59th year, is a well-established tradition. The largest amateur sports event in Israel, it is held in the Sea of Galilee (the Kinneret), in northern Israel.

This year, the Sea of Galilee Swim will be held on Saturday, September 15th, 2012.
In addition to the amateur hits, there will be three competitive award hits, held under the management and supervision of the Israel Swimming Association.

Looking for a personal challenge and an enjoyable swim, with plenty of fun and smiles?
Choose one of the amateur hits:
  • Short amateur hit – From Maagan beach to Zemach beach – 1.5 km long.
  • Long amateur hit – From Ha’on beach to Zemach beach – 3.5 km long.
  • Swimmers in the amateur hits may depart any time between 7 AM and 9 AM.
Looking for a timed contest – to break your own record and win?
Choose one of the competitive hits:
  • Israel 1.5 km ,3 km or 6-km open-water hit* – Start at Zemach beach at and end at Zemach beach.
* Insurance and ergonometric test required.

Meeting and Check-In Point for All Events

All participants in the Sea of Galilee Swim are requested to check in at Beit Bendel, near Zemach beach.
Ample parking is available free of charge to all those arriving in vehicles. Attendants will direct you to the parking lot.
Registration and check-in points will be open from 6:30 AM to 9 AM. Our representatives will meet you there.
After a short identification process, each swimmer will receive a wristband. You must wear the band on your wrist throughout the event. 

Transportation to the Starting Points
A special bus service will operate from 7 AM to 9AM to take swimmers from the meeting point at Zemach beach to the starting points for the swim events at Maagan and Ha’on. Participants in the amateur hits may start any time they choose between 6:30 AM and 9 AM. 
Only swimmers wearing wristbands will be allowed to board the buses and enter the beach at the starting point.

Checking Belongings During the Swim
There will be a designated area near each starting point where swimmers may leave their belongings. These will be kept for you on Zemach beach, at the finish point.

During the Swim
Boats and rafts will be stationed every a few hundred meters along the route. If you get tired, simply climb onto a boat or raft for a brief rest and continue when ready.

At the Finish Line
When you reach the finish line at Zemach beach, to the cheering of your friends awaiting you there:
Officials of the Israel Swimming Association will record the time of the participants in the competitive hits.
Every swimmer will receive a speedo bag, chocolate milk, a roll ' energy bar and a medal.
The closing ceremony, including distribution of medals and prizes to competitive swimmers will be held at about 11:00 AM.
